The FMLA helps employees make family a priority

Adoption can be a time consuming and emotionally draining process. It may involve visits to the court, consultations with lawyers, travel to a foreign country and more. A newly adoptive parent needs time to bond with her new family member and time to allow the child to settle into her new surroundings. Yet an adoptive parent is expected to do this while simultaneously juggling the demands of work and other family responsibilities.

Worker fired after being threatened by her co-worker

Being fired is never a pleasant experience. A worker who is fired may, in addition to dealing with the financial repercussions, suffer from depression, self-doubt and fear about the future. Typically people are fired because they fail to adequately perform their duties or because they deliberately breach their company's code of conduct. Other times, however, people are fired for reasons that are completely illegal, an action known as "wrongful termination."

Let’s talk about sexual discrimination

Sexual discrimination is illegal, harms everyone and exists everywhere, from small companies to high performing global firms. Sexual discrimination refers to a time when someone has been discriminated against because of his or her gender or sexual orientation, or because of his or her association with a group or organization generally associated with a specific sex. Over 24,000 discrimination lawsuits are filed in US federal courts every year, and many more are filed at the state level.

Is disability discrimination only illegal for current impairments?

Among the types of discrimination that federal law bans in the workplace is disability discrimination. Under this prohibition, one of the things covered employers are banned from doing is taking discriminatory employment actions against an employee because the employee has a mental or physical impairment that puts a substantial limitation on a major life activity.
